Well there had to be a winner on the night and Croucher Brewing’s Patriot was the one that took away top honours after defeating West Coast’s Pale Ale. We’d like to thank all brewers for their entries, and congratulate Croucher for their success.
From Paul Croucher: We were pretty excited about the different format of the NZbeercup. We have grown up passionate about flavours and have found the style prescriptive nature of most beer competitions a little stifling. This competition was mono e mono and a challenge to the judges as to whether they like the beer rather than whether or not it fitted into a particular category. There were some hot beers in the competition so we were more than a little humbled to take out the top prize!
A full Press Release will be issued shortly.
Ladies and gentlemen just a reminder that the NZ Beer Cup kicks off in under 30mins. Follow us on Twitter for all the results as they happen, and check back on the site soon for a full report of the night.
Good luck to all our entrants and let’s see what the judges make of the blind tasting format! Should be a fun evening to celebrate the craft of brewing in New Zealand, and we cannot wait to see which beer will rule them all on the night.
Please note that due to requests from a number of brewers we have delayed the NZ Beer Cup. It will now be held on the evening of June 6 which means the entry window will be extended accordingly. Thanks to all who have entered so far, and good luck to all entrants… remember only one beer can walk away the winner – who will be crowned the champion on the night?
With the big day approaching the judging panel is taking shape and entries are rolling in with confirmed breweries including:
• Emerson’s
• Stoke
• The Twisted Hop
• Galbraith Brewing Co
• Boundary Road Brewery
• West Coast Brewery
• Wigram Brewing Company
• Matsons Brewery
• Townshend Brewery
• Tuatara
• 8 Wired
• Ben Middlemiss
And more. If you’re a brewery there’s still time to enter – just! – so don’t delay. Stay tuned for full coverage of this night of nights, coming soon!
Entries are now invited for the NZ Beer Cup.
Want to pit your brew – or brews – against the rest in anticipation of victory? Then don’t delay, the event is only 25 days away…
And remember, the NZ Beer Cup is blind tasted, putting the emphasis on flavour in a format that’s built for speed and fun – one beer will rule them all but the craft of brewing will be the winner on the night!
Stay tuned for more info on the NZ Beer Cup which will be release shortly. But the essence of the event is a fun night of knockout blind tasting to find a “winner” – the people’s champ, the one beer to rule them all.
The craft of brewing will be the winner on the night!…
